What does New Media Mean to me? 02/09/2022

     When I first started our New Media course I was a little confused on what we were going to learn about, I wasn't rally sure what "New Media" meant or what it referred to but after the first couple of classes I slowly began to get my own understanding of what it was because I feel like that's kind of what you have to do in a way. The term is used in a way where there is a more specific meaning to it but also I feel like you can kind of change and mold the term into what you think it is just because of the simple fact that its such a broad topic. It can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people depending on age groups as well as the generation you grew up in and I really got that from the first reading that we were assigned in class. So essentially overall if you were to ask a group of people what New Media is they would all most likely have a different definition but of course with a few similar key words.

    To me New Media has to do with what the two words mean so newer more modern and faster ways of doing things media related so photography, socials, what we're doing right now which is blogging, websites, videos, podcasts, etc. its a way of expressing yourself and communicating through the arts is a digital way. This may have not been big back when our grandparents were around, a lot of the technology we have now didn't even exist back then so their version of New Media is different from ours, from the videos we saw in class the way they developed photos is much different than how we develop photos now. They didn't have digital ways of getting news out and things like that, they had news papers and letters and so on so essentially the term had a much different meaning. Overall I think that New Media is a great thing that we all encounter on a day to day bases and its something that has made our lives much more entertaining and easier.
